About This Race

The 2026 Illinois U.S. Senate primary election will be held on June 16, 2026, to select the Democratic and Republican nominees for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Dick Durbin. This primary determines which candidates will advance to the November general election for one of Illinois' two U.S. Senate seats.

How to Vote

To vote in the Illinois primary, voters must register by May 16, 2026, either online through the Illinois State Board of Elections website, by mail, or in person at their local election office. On election day, voters can cast ballots at their designated polling place between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM CT, or during the early voting period from June 3 to June 14, 2026, at designated early voting sites. Valid photo ID is required for first-time voters who registered by mail and did not provide identification with their registration; otherwise, no ID is needed to vote in person.
